Welcome to Timbits FUNdamentals
This weekend begins the Tyke/FUNdamentals season for your daughters.  For many of you this will be your first exposure to Hockey and to the London Devilettes so I wanted to send you a quick note to outline the season.  The Tyke/FUNdamentals follows the Hockey Canada Inititation Program as introduced in 2016-17 season as part of their Long Term Player Development Program. The overlying principle of the program is outlined here.

Hockey Canada developed the Timbits Hockey Canada Initiation Program to make the first contact with hockey a safe and positive experience. It is a structured, learn-to-play hockey program designed to introduce beginners to the game's basic skills. It enables participants to become contributing members of a team effort, develop self-confidence, and experience a sense of personal achievement. These goals are achieved in an atmosphere of fun and fair play.

Timbits Hockey Canada Initiation Program Objectives

  • A comprehensive program for the development of young children as hockey players.
  • The focus is on skill development and fun without the pressures of winning.
  • It aims to create participants and instructors who will continue in the game.
  • The motto is Fun, Fitness and Fair Play.

The London Devilettes Tyke program will have 2 ice times per week, Saturday’s 1:00 – 1:50pm at Kinsmen Arena, and Sundays 1:00 – 1:50pm at the NEW Bostwick Community Centre (501 Southdale W).  Girls are required to wear full equipment (CSA approved helmet and face mask, throat protector - BNQ approved, shoulder pads, elbow pads, shin pads, hockey gloves, pelvic protector (“Jill”), hockey pants, and skates, a jersey and socks will be provided.   Volunteer coaches will provide programming consistent with the program guidelines and objectives as listed above.

The program will run every week except for a few dates when the City has preempted our ice times due to tournaments.  A link to the schedule is here https://londondevilettes.ca/Leagues/2390/Calendar/ and you can follow the instructions on the schedule site to have it sync with your phone if you wish.  Periodic updates may be provided on the website or via email.

At this time, we have a few people who have indicated that they are willing to assist with the on-ice programming, but we are still looking for someone to take on the lead role.  If you would be interested in volunteering for this position, please contact me for more information.

Additional information on Hockey Canada’s Initiation Program can be found on the Hockey Canada website https://www.hockeycanada.ca/en-ca/hockey-programs/coaching/initiation

Looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend.
