Hello parents, athletes, and coaches,

I would like welcome everyone to the 2022/2023 London Devilettes U13 House League season. My name is Peter Wethey and I will be the U13 House League convenor this year.

For those returning to the devilettes, welcome back, and for those new to the league we are glad to have you aboard. I am sure this year will be another fun and exciting year of hockey where the athletes can enjoy reconnecting with their hockey friends or making new hockey friends, in addition to developing their skills and experiencing the excitement of games and tournaments.

I have included a link to the Devilette’s web site & the U13 web site below for your convenience should you wish to have a look. I will be updating the U13 HL web site throughout the year with information and game results.

There will be four U13 house league teams this year. The ice times for U13 House League are shown in the table below. We will have games on Saturdays and practices on Wednesdays. We need some more volunteers before we can begin the season. Most critical …we need 3 more head coaches, but we will also require assistant coaches, trainers, dressing room/bench moms for each team once the teams are assembled. The season will begin with 2 assessment ice times for all athletes. The assessments will be leveraged to create the teams. Assessments will start on Wednesday Oct 5th if we get all the head coaches in place plus we get some on-ice volunteers (we need 2 or 3 for each ice time) to run assessment drills and some volunteers (2 for each ice time) to hand out jerseys at the first day assessment ice times. Please email me if you can volunteer for any of these positions.

I will be sending a follow up email out in a couple days with the assessment ice time your athlete has been assigned. Teams will be assembled following the last assessment session. You will hear from the head coach of your team shortly after the teams are assembled. I will post the schedule for the first half of the season once the teams are assembled. There will be some minor adjustments to the schedule as the season progresses to account for arena blackout dates that affect ice availability and tournaments our teams enter impacting our ability to run games.

This season we have too many goalies (8 goalies registered). If your athlete registered as a goalie and is interested in playing net part time or switching to playing out or interested in playing net full time in U15 please send me an email. [email protected]

Below I have included some information about the assessment sessions for those new to process or for those looking for a refresher.

ASSESSMENT STEPS:
1.       When you arrive at arena for your first assessment session, a table will be set up with a volunteer handing out jerseys. Please go to this table to collect your athlete’s jersey when you arrive at the arena for the first assessment session. Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your athlete’s assigned assessment session start time.

2.        The assessors will evaluate athletes by jersey colour and number so it is vital that your athlete keeps the same jersey for all evaluation sessions. Jerseys will be collected at the end of the last assessment session. The teams will be established using the evaluation results. To ensure a balanced set of teams, it is important that your athlete do their best at the assessments so the teams can be created with accurate information. Please encourage your athlete to do their best.

3.       I will publish list of assessment ice times by last name shortly.  Please attend your assigned ice time session. With almost 60 athletes to organize, it is impossible to shuffle athletes around to accommodate everyone's special requests and personal schedules. If you have a conflict for a critical item please email me and I will do my best to accommodate your request.

I am seeking a few volunteersto assist with Jersey assignment at the first assessment sessions. Please reply back to me via email if you are interested in assisting with this. You will need to be at arena at least 40 minutes before our first ice time. This is a great opportunity to meet some of the families involved in the league this year!

I am also seeking some on-ice volunteersto run the evaluation drills. The drill details will be provided to you prior to the evaluation sessions. All you need is a helmet, gloves, stick and skates, and ideally a whistle to help execute the drills. This will allow the coaches to watch off ice and record their evaluation results. This is great opportunity to meet the coaches!

I am looking forward to meeting you, and enjoying a great season of hockey ahead!
