Rowan's Law (Concussion Safety)
As of July 1st, 2019, Rowan's Law (Concussion Safety), comes into effect. This new law makes it mandatory for sports organizations to do the following:
1. Ensure that athletes, parents of athletes under 18, coaches and officials confirm every year that they have reviewed Ontario's concussion awareness resources.
2. Establish a removal-from-sport (RFS) and return-to-sport (RTS) protocol.
3. Establish a concussion code of conduct that sets out rules of behavior to support concussion prevention.
The review of concussion awareness resources and concussion codes of conduct are expected to be in place by July 1, 2019. The rules for RFS and RTS are expected to be in place by July 1, 2020.The Concussion Awareness Resource e-booklets are available below along with an OWHA confirmation form that you have reviewed the government's resource in accordance with the legislation. Please scroll to the appropriate appendix as per your athletes age(s). This completed form needs to be returned to your coach prior to the beginning of the season.
