LDGHA Founding Pioneer Jim Martin's Induction to London Sports Hall of Fame
The LDGHA is thrilled to announce and celebrate the
induction of
Jim Martin into the London Sports Hall of Fame this November 7th, 2024. Jim is a true pioneer in girls' hockey and one of the key visionaries behind the formation of the LDGHA in 1986! Please click on 'Read More' for more details.
After moving to London in 1962 Jim (a Tobermory native) soon recognized a critical gap in the local hockey landscape – there was no organized opportunities for girls to play hockey. Driven by passion for the sport and belief in equality, Jim embarked on a mission to provide young women with the same opportunities he had enjoyed. Jim’s dedication was pivotal in securing ice time and fostering an inclusive environment where girls could thrive.
From its modest beginnings with 20 to 30 players, our organization has grown to over 750+ registered players today, nurturing countless talented and successful athletes. Thank you, Jim, for your unwavering commitment, vision, and pioneering spirit. Your legacy will continue to inspire and empower future generations of female hockey players.
