Hello parents,
athletes, and coaches,
I would like
welcome everyone to the 2024/2025 London Devilettes U15 House League season. My name is Peter Wethey and I will be the U15 House League convenor this
year.
For those
returning to the devilettes, welcome back, and for those new to the league we
are glad to have you aboard. I am sure this year will be another fun and
exciting year of hockey where the athletes can enjoy reconnecting with their
hockey friends or making new hockey friends, in addition to developing their
skills and experiencing the excitement of games and tournaments.
I have
included a link to the Devilette’s U15HL web site below for your convenience
should you wish to have a look. I will be updating the U15 HL web site
throughout the year with information and game results.

We will have two U15 HL teams this year. With
two teams we will play in the WOGHL (Western Ontario Girls Hockey League). We
will play some local teams within WOGHL and will confirm the local teams we
will play with in a couple weeks.
Our Devilette ice times for U15 House League
are shown in the table below. We will have games on Saturdays and practices on Thursdays
but may also have some other game times when playing other WOGHL teams. We need
some volunteers before we can begin the season. We will require on-ice volunteers for the assessment
skates, assistant coaches, trainers, dressing room/bench moms for each
team once the teams are assembled. The season will begin with a warm up skate
and then 2 assessment ice times for all athletes. The assessments will be
leveraged to create two balanced teams. The warm up skate will take place on
Saturday Sept 28th and the assessments skates will start on Thursday
October 3rd followed by Saturday October 5th. Please email me if you can volunteer for any
of these positions ([email protected]). We can’t start the assessments without
on-ice volunteers, so it is critical that I get 2 or 3 on-ice volunteers.
Can I ask you to
reply to me ([email protected]) with your athlete’s preferred position (center,
right wing, left wing, defence) and which direction they shoot (left or right).
We know the position you submitted with your registration, but would like to
get the additional forward position
preferences and confirm defence choices. If you have received multiple emails
from me and only wish me to communicate to one of those email addresses please
let me know which email to communicate with going forward. Alternatively if you
would like me to send general communications to additional email address please
send me those details.
I will be
sending a follow up email out in a number of days confirming ice time details
for the warm up skate and assessments. Following the final assessment we will
assemble the teams and you will hear from your head coach after the teams are
assembled. I will post the schedule for the first half of the season once the teams
are assembled and we know our WOGHL partners ice times. There will be some
minor adjustments to the schedule as the season progresses to account for arena
blackout dates that affect ice availability and tournaments our teams enter
impacting our ability to run games.
Below I have included some information about the
assessment sessions for those new to process or for those looking for a
refresher.
ASSESSMENT STEPS:
1. When
you arrive at arena for your warm up skate, a table will be set up with a
volunteer handing out jerseys. Please go to this table to collect your athlete’s jersey when you arrive at
the arena. Please arrive at least 25 minutes prior to the warm up skate ice
time.
2. The
assessors will evaluate athletes by jersey colour and number so it is vital
that your athlete keeps the same jersey for both assessment sessions. Jerseys
will be collected at the end of the 2nd assessment session. The teams will be
established using the assessment evaluation results. To ensure a balanced set
of teams, it is important that your athlete do their best at the assessments so
the teams can be created with accurate information. Please encourage your
athlete to do their best and also attend the warm up skate so all athletes have
a chance to remove the rust from summer downtime.
3. The first assessment session will focus on
skating, passing and shooting. The second session will do a bit of skating followed
by a scrimmage to evaluate the athletes in game situations.
Again… I am seeking some on-ice volunteers to run the assessment drills. The drill details will
be provided to you prior to the assessment sessions. All you need is a helmet, gloves,
stick and skates, and ideally a whistle to help execute the drills. This will
allow the head coaches to watch off ice and record their assessment
results. This is great opportunity to meet the coaches!
I am looking forward to meeting
you, and enjoying a great season of hockey ahead!
