Bantam AA gives back
On the ice, we win.
Off the ice, we give.
The Bantam AA Devilettes have caught the holiday spirit.
We visited Anova, London's women's shelter to learn about women and families in crisis. Anova, an amalgamation of the former Women's Community House and Sexual Assault Centre London, welcomed our players to hear about their services and donate gifts and essentials.
We borrowed an excellent idea from our Junior Devilettes, who helped the Whitby Junior squad by stuffing new purses and backpacks with needed items – and the shelter is always in need. We learned that there about 5,000 distress calls made to the London's agency's help annually and that the 67-bed shelter, plus their second-stage housing, is always full. The shelter is open 24/7 year round to help women and children escape violence.
Our thanks to Pamela Coray, Anova's development manager, for telling us about their services.
We are young women helping women. We are Devilettes.
